If you are on the fence about joining us, we wanted to share with you why some of us joined derby. So we asked our skaters, both veterans, and new skaters: what made you join, and what is your favorite part of derby?

What made you join roller derby?
When I was in the military I was surrounded by this feeling of belonging. No matter how tough something was, we had each other’s six. When I got out, I was looking for a community that made me feel that same sense of camaraderie. The derby community has given that back to me. 
What is your favorite part about derby?
I love the fanfare. The elaborate makeup, the punny derby names, the themed bouts, and fun half-time shows. Also, the fact that you can be you, and aren’t expected to completely conform to be a part of the team!
How long have you been with Cornfed?
Playing for six years. Transferred to Cornfed at the beginning of 2022.
